“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.” - Maria Montessori

Montessori Environment

The principles and practice of the Montessori approach have emerged from observing the activity of communities of children in prepared environments. Montessori prepared environment is designed to maximized child's independence. At each stage of development, the physical, emotional, psychological, social and intellectual needs of the children govern the preparation of the environment, as well as the design of the materials placed in the environment and the activities offered to the children.

The architecture is designed by our founding members who understand the requirements of a good Montessori environment. Attention has been given to Montessori education philosophy and the children feel free and secure in a beautiful home-like environment. The scale of interior spaces is child friendly and is tailored to promote learning.

Toddler Community (18 months - 3 years)

The secure home-like environment prepared for this program is for toddlers from the time they are walking until they are 3 years of age. It is an environment where they experience their first structured contact with other children. The focus of the environment is to stimulate senses, enrich language, improve concentration, and build independence for cultivating self-esteem and self-confidence in their own intellectual capacity.

Primary Program or the Children's House (3 - 6 years)

Sensory Explorer with Absorbent Mind

The Montessori classroom and environment is prepared to facilitate the independent learning process that will develop self-discipline, self-esteem, concentration, responsibility, creativity and social skills. The Montessori materials are arranged on open shelves. The materials, designed by Dr. Maria Montessori, satisfy the natural tendency for children to be self-learners. The brief lessons are given by a trained Montessori teacher using the materials. Children are then free to explore and observe. After they have finished working, they return the materials to the shelf where they came from. The teachers keep careful records of the children's choice of activity. An emphasis is placed on the process rather than the product of learning.

Elementary Program (6 - 12 years)

Explorer of Morality with Imaginative and Reasoning Mind.

The Montessori environment for this age group is designed for a community of peers. Children prefer working with other children on the same task to achieve a shared goal. For this reason lessons are given to small groups of children. Children who have had the same lesson are then able to follow up the work together. Children spend a lot of time working with others, but progress at their own rate. The environment is designed to provide children with space and uninterrupted time to follow their interests into the Great Work. Two environments are offered to the children; classroom , and the world outside the classroom. 'Going Out' is the way to widen the experience outside their classrooms. The children plan an excursion with help of the teacher. The resources , such as brochures, map, and the internet, are provided to the children to help them plan the 'Going Out'.

Adolescent Program or Erdkinder (12 - 18 years)

Humanistic and Social Explorer

Adolescence is a period of physical, intellectual and social transformation. These needs are central to Montessori educational environment prepared for adolescents. Adolescents do not need manipulative materials in learning like the previous planes of development. They are comfortable with adult's learning technique, like reading, discussing, and applying what they learn in the real world. Building on the foundation of the earlier two planes, Montessori students explore their place in human society and ways in which they might contribute to the society.

Educational environment prepared for adolescents is centered around adolescent's physical, social, spiritual, ethical, and intellectual needs. Young people gain social experience that prepares them for adulthood in a community. It incorporates two types of working environments:

1. An environment that relates to nature and the earth.

2. An environment that relates to the work of humans.

In extension of Cosmic education and for serving their own physical and mental needs, the adolescent work on farm land. This strengthens their connection with the natural world. Hence, the program is named "Erdkinder" or Earth Children for young adolescents. Growing organic fruits and vegetables, tending animals, food preparation, and other community work, as far as running an inn, are parts of Erdkinder program. Hands-on learning is providing through apprenticeships and mentorships. Children of this age need time for self -expression and opportunities to experience how the society functions. The teaching staff is made up of specialists from different areas, including Montessori education, secondary school subject areas. Addition of technical expertise includes agriculture, animal husbandry, business management, and practical skills.
